A driver who tried to save ducks from being hit on I-5 in Lynnwood is being blamed for causing a chain-reaction crash.

The state patrol said the woman spotted a few ducks on the shoulder of the freeway Wednesday night and pulled over to try to save them.

The woman reportedly walked into traffic to try and shoo the ducks off the roadway.

The state patrol said cars had to swerve to avoid hitting the woman and ducks.

A trooper told KIRO 7 an oncoming semi-truck swerved to avoid hitting the woman but smashed into two cars and killed two ducks in the process.

The semi jackknifed and fuel from the truck leaked into a nearby storm drain.

State ecology crews responded to the scene to deal with the fuel spill.

Troopers told KIRO 7 that they may push for charges against the woman who tried to save the ducks.

Though the woman had good intentions, troopers warn people to stay in their cars and not stop in the middle of the freeway which puts those driving in a dangerous situation.

An incident like this could easily cause several personal injury claims to arise. If you’re considering filing a lawsuit, contact a Lynnwood injury lawyer at our firm to discuss your potential claim today for a free legal consultation.

Washington Rules of the Road: 46.61.125. Further limitations on driving to left of center of roadway

In this chapter of the rules of the road, the laws for passing vehicles to the left are identified. It’s common that these rules have been violated when an auto accident caused injury in Lynnwood.

(1) No vehicle shall be driven on the left side of the roadway under the following conditions:

(a) When approaching or upon the crest of a grade or a curve in the highway where the driver’s view is obstructed within such distance as to create a hazard in the event other traffic might approach from the opposite direction;

(b) When approaching within one hundred feet of or traversing any intersection or railroad grade crossing;

(c) When the view is obstructed upon approaching within one hundred feet of any bridge, viaduct or tunnel;

(d) When a bicycle or pedestrian is within view of the driver and is approaching from the opposite direction, or is present, in the roadway, shoulder, or bicycle lane within a distance unsafe to the bicyclist or pedestrian due to the width or condition of the roadway, shoulder, or bicycle lane.

(2) The foregoing limitations shall not apply upon a one-way roadway, nor under the conditions described in RCW 46.61.100(1)(b), nor to the driver of a vehicle turning left into or from an alley, private road or driveway.

If you’ve been injured in a Lynnwood car accident, whether the at-fault driver violated these laws or not, it would be wise of you to contact a personal injury attorney to discuss your legal options; you may be eligible to be financially compensated for your medical bills, pain and suffering and any other damages caused by the accident.

A 13-year-old Lynnwood boy was injured Friday evening when he was struck by a car while crossing Highway 99 near 148th Street SW.

The boy was transported by aid car to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Washington State Patrol reported the boy was among a group of pedestrians crossing Highway 99 from the east to west side of the roadway when the accident occurred.

The boy had been waived across the roadway by vehicles that had stopped in nearby lanes.

The driver, a 48-year-old Edmonds man, was not injured in the accident that occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to an accident report.

We wish the best for this young man. It’s sad, but things of this nature are occurring on a frequent basis and have been for some time. It is up to you as the parent to make sure they be compensated for their pain and suffering and yourself for the medical bills.

The wreck that killed three men near Monroe early Saturday now ranks as the worse traffic accident since three people died on Memorial Day 2005 along I-5.

Three deaths in one accident is out of the ordinary and above the average in Snohomish County, said Dick Doane, a statistician with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Washington State Patrol troopers believe something similar happened Saturday night about 2 a.m. on Highway 522.

The driver of a Hyundai appears to have lost control and swerved across the center line into oncoming traffic.

The patrol identified the men who died as Christopher Anderson, 26, of Everett; Brian James Morgan, 23, of Lynnwood; and Steven Torres, 34, of Everett.

Investigators still are trying to determine what caused the crash, including if drugs or alcohol were factors.

Between 1993 and 2008, there were 712 fatal crashes in Snohomish County, killing 777.

Snohomish County averages about 43 traffic deaths each year. Through July, 16 people have died, records show.
